Chungnam Forest Museum

Since its opening in October, 1997, the everything about the forest were displayed including the mes such as Meeting with Nature, History of Forest, Benefit and Usage of Forest, Forest being in Pain, Forest Policy and Forest in Future. Especially, ginko tree of Geumsan, Celtis sinensis Pers of Gongju, pine tree of Anmyeon-do, etc. are reproduced in real sizes and shapes. It is even equipped with a natural forest resort, convenience facilities, sport facilities, education facilities, etc., this Museum became the place highlighted as the live education center for the youth as well as family.
In a large-scale greenhouse built with glass-dome,

the tropic and sub-tropic plants are raised while in the wild zoo, the animals such as Manchurian Black Bear, wild bear, etc. and 28 birds including mandarin duck, peacock, etc. are bred. Besides these attractions, there are a tree garden which is the live tree exhibition center, a wild flower garden where the visitor can appreciate the domestic wild flowers, a lake where fountains, waterfall, Rainbow Bridge, etc. are built.

  • Summary : Opened on September 21, 2004, this museum is a world-class natural history museum the scale of which is the largest in the nation where the largest number of collections is preserved. Approx. 300,000 pieces are possessed, and 4,000 samples about natural history are displayed. Especially, it is proud of being located in Gyeryong-san National Park and having the natural environment as a backdrop.

Park Dong-jin Pansori Training Center

Park Dong-jin, who is the maestro of Pansori (Important intangible cultural asset No. 5, Jeokbyeok-ga art skill holder) came from Mureung-dong Gongju, and is a Pheonix who devoted himself in the art his entire life, going through all sorts of hard work. He built a Pansori training center in Mureung-dong, the place where he was born, for the purpose to cultivate the younger generation and connect the pulse of Pansori, where 5 Pansori Batang (Jeokbyeok-ga, Chunhyang-ga, Sugung-ga, Shimcheong-ga, Hongbo-ga), Bible Pansori, Dan-ga, Southern Island Folk Song, etc.is opened for education.

Im-Lip Art Gallery

As a private art gallery, Im-Lip Art Gallery having a large and small exhibition rooms, outdoor sculpture park, lake, resting place and seminar room keeps a good harmony with beautiful and quiet natural landscapes nearby like a piece of picture.

The scale of the exhibition room is not large, but the works and collections of Im-Lip, the director of the Gallery are mainly displayed. Fine arts talent test for children and youth, cultural lectures for public (Oriental painting, Western painting, pottery, sculpture, practical skills guidance, etc.) and a variety of invitation exhibitions and planning exhibitions are opened.

In this Museum, the data collected related with a variety of education materials including domestic textbooks (Chosun era, Enlightenment Period, Japanese Colonial Period , before and after Liberation from Japanese Imperialistic Rule, Period of 1st <1954> ~ 7th education processes), ancient novels, ancient documents, children's magazine, cartoon, etc. are preserved and displayed. Currently displayed are 21,000 pieces in total, including 48 ancient novels, 418 textbooks, 23 Chosun era and Chinese books, 33 pieces of data related with Gongju and Chungnam, and 186 miscellaneous pieces, 52 pieces of education-related panel data, 250 pieces of data related with students,

30 pieces of pottery, 200 pieces of viewing stones (Munhyang-seok of Baekryeon-do), 20,000 pieces of stamp, 200 piece of documents, 100 old map, and 200 pieces of fine arts. It is utilized as the arena of education where the opportunity of human nature education and experimental learning is provided for growing youth.

Seokjang-ri Old Stone Age Ruins was formed for diversified cultural levels over the former term, mid term and latter term of the pre-historic period. Furthermore, proofs of the residential area such as house sites, places where fire were made, men's hairs and furs, pieces of grain burnt, etc. were found, and furthermore, approx. 3,000 pieces of chipped stone implements including scratcher, poker, cutter, hand ax, chisel, etc. were excavated, which became valuable data for previous culture research.
The stone implement in the shape of the vessel's bottom among them is estimated as one from the Latter Old Stone Age (approx. 30,000 ~ 10,000 years ago),

which is an important clue revealing the process how people moved from Northeast Asia to North America in view of its being spread over East Asia, Bering Sea, Alaska and North America. Beyond the level of simply preserving and displaying the relics, Seokjang-ri Museum was built on approx. 16,000 pyeong site near the relics. This enables the visitors to eat into the heart of living culture of the people of the Old Stone Age who accomplished the Old Stone Age culture, and then understand and experience their culture, and subsequently Seokjang-ri remains representing the Old Stone Age in Korea are preserved and maintained for the visitor to find the Pre-Historic relics at a glance.
